Satire is a genre of literature, and sometimes graphic and performing arts, in which vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming individuals, corporations, government or society itself, into improvement.

I came across French illustrator and graphic designer, Jean Jullien, who’s satirical designs poke fun at our own (a)social behavior and how we communicate with each other in everyday life, and what effect mobile technology and pop culture have had on this.

He says how his work tends to focus on ideas with the aim to communicate and expand discussions, something which I think is very inspiring and I would hope to achieve the same with my own project.

Even though Jullien's work is not photographic, it has helped me understand the power of humor and how it can let you talk about anything. I also admire how he has embraced things like social media, but is still critical of it.
