The Global Community Filmmaking Network (GCFMN)

GCFMN is aiming to create and support a network that would help community filmmakers and/or communities using film as a medium of self-representation and expression to learn from each other. Such a network is also envisaged as a space for people with expertise and interest in the use of film in this way to connect, communicate and share any useful resources and contacts.

When you hear the term community filmmaking, what does this mean to you? Do you associate the term with notions of "amateurism" or "professionalism" or even both?
Are you interested in studying the history, evolution and contemporary practice of community filmmaking? Are you interested in scoping existing comparative analyses of community filmmaking across the globe? Ever asked yourself what the value of community filmmaking is in relation to questions of voice, empowerment and representation? Share your thoughts and help the network begin a dialogue on these issues and many more as they relate to community filmmaking across the globe!

"Films made by young people in only 2 hrs as part of an action-packed Heritage and Community Filmmaking masterclass led by the Street Heritage Youth Filmmakers. The young people taking part learnt camera and sound skills, interview technique and editing, and archive interpretation skills. They then devised a fictional character , filmed an interview and edited it with archive film footage and photographs from the London Metropolitan Archives collections".
