Subterranean New York City

New York City in thirty years time. Ravaged by the Change, making it an inhospitable environment. People must wear protective clothing before venturing outdoors to shield themselves from the harsh rays of the sun. They retreat -- gathering at subterranean bars, restaurants and even parks, to escape the extreme weather.

In my trilogy of 'Mya and Ark' the main character Mya and her BFF Rosie like to have cocktails at a favourite subterranean bar called Pravda. Their friend Erik is the bartender, who dreams of being an artist, and prepares the women authentic-alcohol drinks, like real whiskey sours. Erik is working at opening his own subterranean venue -- a bar and art gallery in the East Village called Cave Art and Cave Lounge.

In this future New York City, young adults still want to have a good time going out to clubs, restaurants and bars, but they've got to do so in the face of the Change.

Here's a website talking about the very real plan to build a Low Line, subterranean park in New York City. I imagined a park like this and a New York City that retreats underground to escape the ravages of the Change -- before a friend sent me this link to show me that my far-fetched imagination was bumping into reality! In my 'Mya and Ark' triology I plan to have this idea of a subterranean park feature.

In future New York City, Mya, Erik and Rosie can visit the subterranean park the Lowline. Constructed beneath the streets of the city, people can visit to escape from the intense enviornment of the Change. Underground, they find a green paradise of plants and wildlife, thriving away from intense sunlight and harsh winter season weather.

Pravda is a subterranean bar in New York City. It features in my book 'In Ark: A Promise of Survival' and is a place where Mya and Rosie go for authentic-alcohol cocktails to escape the harsh environment and stress of the Change.
