When the telephone was first introduced to Bute in 1887, it connected to only two places. The first one was Mount Stuart House which is on the west side of Bute.

The second one it connected to was The Bute Estate Offices.

The first telephone introduced to Bute looked like this. It was a black cone like shape on top of a square wooden plaque.
