Alwyn arrived in Rothesay in the summer of 1952 on the Alaric to join the 3rd Submarine Flotilla, who were based in Rothesay between 1952-3 and 1955-6.

Yes, I spent many summers on the island in the 60s and 70s and recall many sailors being around. I returned there in Sept 2021 and wrote a story about my return. The piece is called "The Renewal" and is available at beinghumaninprose.com
