Where I grew up
It's important to remember where you came from, so I've written a little bit about my home town of Sheldon, in Birmingham.

I grew up in Sheldon, in Birmingham. A pretty normal town, really.

I lived on Clopton Road, in an estate of post-war houses.

The Radleys, in Sheldon, Birmingham

There are two shopping centres nearby – The Radleys and the Poolway. Neither are exactly Harvey Nicks, but you could get what you need.
I remember there used to be a record shop next to the large Co-op in the Poolway, when I was very young. Anyone remember that? Would have been in the late 1970s, early 1980s.
Also, graffiti'd on the wall outside the Poolway, in huge letters, was 'LED ZEPPELIN' – I didn't even know what a Led Zeppelin was at the time. Wish I'd took a photo of that when I had the chance. I believe the wall has been demolished now.

There's not much in the way of impressive architecture in Sheldon. We used to have quite an imposing technical college, known as Garretts Green College (latterly East Birmingham College), but it's since been demolished.
